Her Brave Inescapable Mission is the inspiring non-profit expedition and documentary that celebrated UN humanitarian Cara Yar Khan, who is battling the rare debilitating HIBM(Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy) disease, will embark on this April. Cara will attempt a twelve-day Grand Canyon mission on horseback and whitewater raft, that will include extreme tests of strength, endurance and danger to shatter stigma and discrimination against people with disabilities while inspiring others to face adversity bravely and find strength in the struggle. Throughout this journey, in a harsh and unforgiving wilderness, the expedition will challenge and highlight the integrity of the human spirit, contrasted and framed by the majesty and grandeur of this Natural Wonder. Time is of the essence as her body’s muscles waste away, weakening her every move.
Diagnosedat the age of 30, Cara never imagined that the inescapable daily struggle brought on by this cruel condition would lead her to her greatest source of strength nor that becoming a woman living with a disability would lead to her life’s purpose of advocating for the most marginalized and vulnerable minority in the world. Living life in the face of adversity, as Cara has chosen to do - with dignity, courage and an enthusiastic craving for adventure - has helped her family and friends cope with the tragedy that is her muscles wasting away. Knowing that her weak body would not take her far across the Grand Canyon, she decided to learn to horseback ride. Little did Cara know the healing power of horses or the empowerment that would come on the back of this 1200 lbs creature or that she would be so daring as to choose a wild Mustang named Luke to be her champion.
